I currently have the following contract which might be of interest to

4 requirements for Senior Unix Developers, Perl / mod_perl / Apache
(Ref: 18486)  Maidenhead

 

 

CONTRACT DURATION:- 

*	3 Months +

 

LOCATION:-

*	Maidenhead, Berkshire

 

RATES:-

*	Market Rates

 

START DATE:-

*	Urgent

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:-

The primary function of this hands-on role is to develop
applications/services for our customers. The candidates will have come
from a commercial environment where they have worked with internet
technologies within a highly distributed environment.  The following
summarises the core skills we would expect a senior developer to
possess; analysis and technical design skills, ability to produce
project estimates, help project managers manage development plans,
experience of testing and QA procedures, understanding of release,
configuration and change management. You will also work close with the
business when required. Detailed accountabilities are

 

*         Liaise with stakeholders, technical architects, operations and
engineering staff to produce application designs

o        Analyse business requirements

o        Produce high level design

*         Implement technical solutions 

o        Code and test

o        Prepare for release

o        Handover to operations staff

o        3rd line support

*         Customer interaction

o        Provide assistance to customers when analysing their needs

o        Help team members resolve technical problems

*         Business and technical analysis, design and development of
internet applications, scripts and application components

*         Support of developed components and resolution of bug fixes
and enhancements

 

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:- 

*	Apache; 
*	Perl; 
*	mod_perl; 
*	C; 
*	Good understanding of OO concepts and desire to progress their
Java knowledge; 
*	Unix Systems - especially Solaris, and Linux; 
*	Knowledge and appreciation of at least four of the following:
TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, DNS, SMTP, DHCP; 
*	Understand the effect firewalls have when designing distributed
applications; 
*	Ability to evaluate internal and external impacts on application
performance; 
*	Awareness of security considerations for internet applications; 
*	Change Configuration and Release Management; 
*	Testing and QA experience; 
*	Estimating and project planning skills; 
*	UML.

 

ADVANTAGEOUS SKILLS:- 

*	Java; 
*	Unix systems administration; CVS and SVN (Subversion); 
*	Unix shell scripting; 
*	Core development tools - Sun Workshop, GNU tool set; 
*	Awareness of storage: SAN / NAS; 
*	Streaming - knowledge of encoders, Real & Windows Media; 
*	Regular use of an X desktop; 
*	Familiarity with Microsoft Windows (NT, Win2K, XP); 
*	Technologies - TCP/IP (sockets), POSIX threads, CGI, HTTP, SMTP;
DNS and other application-layer protocols, XML, SOAP, J2EE; 
*	Working knowledge of IETF Standards and W3C standards; 
*	Awareness of infrastructure; firewalls, load balancing and
networks; 
*	CASE tools; 
*	Databases - Oracle, mySQL and other database technologies (eg.
MS SQL Server); 
*	Data modelling; 
*	SQL
