Perl Developer - Web - Investment Banking - LAMP Stack - OO Perl / SQL / Shell



Location: London, City of London

My client, a Tier 1 investment bank, requires an experienced Perl Developer to join one of the banks London based engineering team responsible for their Unix web hosting clusters. The team run a LAMP stack for web hosting with an in-house developed automation layer and self-service configuration web portal, both written mainly in Perl.



This role focuses on maintaining and extending the recently added high-throughput + low-latency components of the hosting platform (based on nginx + memcached)



The role is primarily engineering, with some degree of providing 3rd level support for escalations from our operations and support team



The ideal candidate will have some dev ops or ISP experience developing system automation infrastructure for large scale globally distributed web hosting clusters.  This role focuses on maintaining and extending the recently added high-throughput + low-latency components of the hosting platform (based on nginx + memcached), so experience with these or related technologies and with performance tuning web servers in general is strongly desirable.



The role is for an initial 6 months, but due to the nature of the team and project, this is likely to be extended.

Required Skills:

            Perl, SQL, Shell scripting

            OOP (especially OO Perl), unit testing

            Unix/Linux

            web hosting, caching and proxy software and related technologies, Apache,

              HTTP, SSL, CGI, FastCGI, performance tuning

            revision control systems (branching and merging, Subversion, Git desirable)

            networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS

            Ability to reverse-engineer legacy code

            Application and OS security

            Can build software from source; make, autoconf
