For a 'go round the houses' approach:

* Open each document in OpenOffice
* Save in OpenDocument format (which is a zip file with an .odt  
extension)
* Open zip file
* Inspect the content.xml therein

The tracked changes have their own set of tags, as far as I can  
remember.
