Never heard of this - although I have lost BB races in a fully loaded
touring cycle fitted with a hill climbing block back in my student days.
They just grind out and you end up walking home.

My fix - buy campag - they *never* wear out - I still have two sets of
campag hubs from over 15 years ago.
