I had a couple of out-of-region DVDs that I'd never played, but I did
manage to rip them with http://handbrake.m0k.org/ (as long as I managed
to stop DVD Player before it read the disk and ejected it!).

Having read the page, I wonder though whether HandBrake changed the
region on the fly.
