Well *Mr Graham* says they weren't for the right reasons.

His reasons don't quite make sense - viz "The rewrote it because they
didn't understand Lisp but they made it an s-expression compiler".

So they spent all that time rewriting it just to have it coded in ...
Lisp?

The story I heard on the internal grapevine was that it just didn't
scale.

Fun fact time people - "Jak and Dexter" on the PS2 had most of its
runtime code written in Lisp (well, GOAL - Game Orientated Assembly
Lisp). And Crash Bandicoot was scripted in Lisp.

Also, City of Heroes is scripted in Python.
