You can jurisidiction shop and go via the EPO, bypassing the, now
almost sane about software, UKPO.
The EPO will happily allow you to patent the same absurd and
unpatentable (according to national patent laws within the EU as well
as the European Patent Convention which the EPO was created under)
rubbish as the USA.
For added bonus hilarity, patent disputes are set to become a criminal
matter, see how much fun sandisk had with that.
