Depends where you're based - but Bishopsgate Institute opposite Liverpool St Station runs beginners photography courses that cover the basics like that. Or you could have a look at somewhere like London Metropolitan University if you want something longer.
 
Aside from that, looking at the back of one of the photography magazines like Amateur Photographer is always a good bet.
