Crime is worse in big cities rather than small cities or towns or the countryside.

London is a big city, most other big cities are in the "industrial" "north" of England: 
from Birmingham/Leicester/Nottingham northwards to Newcastle (the one in the North :-)).

Nevertheless many places in these big cities (London especially, perhaps) are peaceful,
affluent and wonderful places.  Literally, you pay your money and makes your choice.
