Well in your case it is possibly something like:

Aug 13 14:37:07 windmill sendmail[31373]: l7DD4MJE009635:
to=<andy at hexten.net>, delay=00:31:42, xdelay=00:01:15, mailer=esmtp,
pri=3837788, relay=post.hexten.net. [63.247.80.26], dsn=4.0.0,
stat=Deferred: Operation timed out with post.hexten.net.
Aug 13 14:37:07 windmill sendmail[31373]: l7DCiKIR094670:
to=<andy at hexten.net>, delay=00:51:41, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp,
pri=4016285, relay=post.hexten.net., dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Operation
timed out with post.hexten.net.
Aug 13 14:38:24 windmill sm-mta[30897]: l7DCpCk4099943:
to=<andy at hexten.net>, delay=00:46:08, xdelay=00:01:15, mailer=esmtp,
pri=3926913, relay=post.hexten.net. [63.247.80.26], dsn=4.0.0,
stat=Deferred: Operation timed out with post.hexten.net.
Aug 13 14:38:24 windmill sm-mta[30897]: l7DCiKIR094670:
to=<andy at hexten.net>, delay=00:52:58, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp,
pri=4106285, relay=post.hexten.net., dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Operation
timed out with post.hexten.net.

But in general it is a bit of laziness, mailman queuing and the fact
that at any given time we have a number of subscribers who's servers
have gone away. I've just removed some 153 old queued messages, but I
wouldn't expect much improvement....

Mind I've seen mails from a popular social networking site taking weeks
to arrive ....
