Agreed - getting X running on old silicon graphic's indys is/was fun. And the boot
loader is really quite pleasant. I'd imagine getting it running on a PDA would also
provide education. 

Also, an installation of gentoo might be instructive (and a compromise from bootstrapping
the whole thing) as opposed to just shoving in an ubuntu CD, making with the clicky clicky
and declaring to the world 'i know LINUX me, i R leet gooroo'.

[1] Actually the crazy combination I have in my head of Plan 9 & MovieOS that runs OSX/Gnome
apps over a cluster of computing goodness is the best OS - the only problem is such a beastie
doesn't actually exist. You know I'm half tempted to take over the IRC channel to whitter
on about this mythical beast for half an hour today.
