Even in the confusing closed-source Windows and Mac world, simple  
version numbers work well. Computers may be able to resolve complex  
dependencies, but humans like simple stuff that can be easily  
understood.

"use 5.8.1;" is not just for the sole benefit of the Perl interpreter.
