Their own code is broken *on Linux* if it assumes that /bin/sh is bash.
(this being one of the things that was just mentioned)

Their own code is also broken *on Linux* if it assumes x86.
(This one had become rarer, but might return now that consumer PPC hardware is
no longer sold, and ubiquitous Alphas are long gone)

This is true. Including any warranty that the author is competent.
Code doesn't need to be portable. And free code doesn't need to be anything.
It's just irritating when with a little effort things could be much better.
