I don't think this is a fair assessment of the situation.  

mst is claiming that he "got" OO by inventing his own system first,
whereas you are claiming you "got" it by seeing what classes in C++
compiled down to.  In the first case, mst discovered OO independently.
In the second case, you knew you wanted to know OO, but didn't "get" it
until you saw what was going on under the sheets.
