Perl 5.8.8 segfaulting on comments! How can this be?

perl -V from two environments I can't reproduce this on (if it helps
with anything):

* http://carme.pld-linux.org/~radek/perl588-V.txt vanilla build, no
  patches, x86_64

* http://carme.pld-linux.org/~radek/perl588-V-ac.txt stock PLD build
  (slightly patched but nothing fancy, 32bit i686)
