Alex Gough was in Antarctica. The only Perl mention I can find in his blog
is http://the.earth.li/~alex/halley/2007_10_14.html

He wrote the implementation of UNITCHECK in 5.10, and I believe that he was
in Antarctica at the time.

This might be an unwise choice.
