As Roger says, allow for boxes to be unavailable for periods of time because
they *will* have outages.

Although depending on your application the level of protection you require
will vary. I'm not sure that you'd need a server with mirrored drives, 
multiple LAN connections, multiple power, etc along with a hot standby
instance in another building which is reached by disparate network routing
for showing pictures of your cat.
