5-10 mins should cut it. From clearing customs to the train station is all of about 2 minutes, but departures is probably slightly further. Curiously I've arrived at gatwick far more often than I've left from there

An hour would be more than generous enough. I think it took me 25mins from plat touching down to being on the platform when I did it last week - if that long. It certainly wasn't anywhere close to an hour.
