Originally general discussion was on comp.lang.perl.misc which died with Usenet.
Mailing lists seem to be going the same way (at least for general
discussion where
they never seem to work very well).
People mostly use websites such as the two mentioned above and blogs.perl.org
IRC is particularly strong in the Perl 6 community.
