Job Description
Experienced Perl developer to develop and maintain existing back-end system written in Perl, including adding new features as the business requires, and refactoring old code to enhance its quality, readability and performance. The successful candidate will be working both on customer-facing projects (e.g. customer control panel, order system etc) and back-end (billing, order processing etc).
Requirements
* 2-3 yrs Perl programming
* 2-3 yrs experience with Unix-based systems (systems administration or Perl development (experience with systems administration an advantage
* Excellent knowledge of common Internet protocols (e.g. HTTP, SMTP, DNS, Whois)
* Excellent Perl programming skills, including Object Orientated development, debugging, test-driven development, POD documentation and common CPAN modules (CGI, DBI, HTML: Template)
* 2 - 3 years solid SQL (particularly MySQL) and HTML(particularly standard-based, using CSS)
* Good Unix skills, including shell scripting & database administration
* experience in the domain registration / web hosting market (an advantage)
Typical work activities
* consulting with colleagues or clients with a view to writing and modifying superstructure products
* testing, diagnosing and fixing faults in all such software, sometimes in consultation with users
* writing and testing code
* writing systems to control the scheduling of jobs or to control the access allowed to users or remote systems
* providing written documentation for users, perhaps in conjunction with a technical author
* providing training for end users
* reviewing and developing current systems
* undertaking project work
* Solution Development and Delivery
* Understands technical and functional design requirements.
* Assists in physical and logical database design
* Creates prototypes for client engagements
* Designs, codes, and tests technical solutions
* Identifies system deficiencies and recommends solutions
* Project Execution
* Assists in enforcement of development deadlines and schedules
* Understands the necessity of and contributes to coding standards
* Develops internal and external meeting objectives and agendas
* Prioritizes multiple tasks effectively
Organizational Responsibilities
* Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies
* Shares acquired skills with team members through formal and informal channels
* Encourages more junior employees to take responsibility for their development within the company
* Actively contributes to internal programs
