Job Title: Lead Developer
Department: Research and Development
Location: Rochester, Kent
Salary Range: 25 - 35K depending on skills and experience
Reporting to: Technical Director
Job Description:
Working as the lead developer in a leading security testing company
based in Rochester, Kent.
Responsible for maintaining and improving the vulnerability assessment,
penetration testing and report generation systems; and proposing and
implementing strategic changes in the system configuration.
Responsible for three staff: two system administrators, one in the
Rochester office and one at a remote office; and one developer who is in
the remote office.
This is an ideal job for an experienced Perl developer with an interest
in security testing.
Skills & abilities:
- Essential:
o Good knowledge of TCP/IP networking and common protocols.
o Linux administration and use, ideally Debian.
o Good Perl programming skills.
o Database administration and programming skills, preferably postgresql.
o Use of version control systems, preferably subversion.
o Ability to guide and develop other development and sysadmin staff.
- Desirable:
o Knowledge of other programming and scripting languages: C, bash.
o Network equipment administration, preferably cisco.
o Knowledge or experience of vulnerability assessment or penetration
testing.
o Windows administration, including active directory.
o Web development skills: knowledge of Apache, HTML and CSS.
o Understanding of VPN technologies: IPsec and SSL/TLS and the
associated protocols, methods and algorithms.
o Knowledge of XML and XSLT.
Character & Personal Qualities:
o An interest in security testing, development and open source software.
o Ability to communicate with senior management.
o An ability to balance and prioritise work.
o Able to delegate where appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience:
o At least one year's Perl programming experience, preferably more.
o Preferably educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally a 2:2 or
higher in a computing, science or engineering discipline
Ideal Qualities:
o An in-depth knowledge of current methodologies, techniques and
applications.
o Someone who keeps themselves up to date with the latest technologies.
o An open source advocate, but not a zealot or fanboy.
