Dear all,

We are looking for a software developer to help us build web user-interfaces for our lab-tracking and analysis systems. We would prefer a candidate with experience, but we’re also willing to train a recent graduate in computer science or a related discipline with an interest in bioinformatics and demonstrable aptitude for programming in a modern scripting language. The role will develop technical skills and allow the applicant to acquire substantial biological knowledge in a world-class research institute: it is an ideal first job for a talented graduate.

The role involves building web UI’s using Javascript, HTML and CSS, interfacing to relational database back-ends via the Catalyst (modern perl) web framework. An aptitude for user-interface design would be an advantage, as would prior experience implementing web interfaces with HTML and CSS. Experience delivering database-backed web applications would be an advantage.

We use modern Perl (Catalyst, Moose, DBIx::Class) so experience with these technologies would be very welcome.

We are the High Throughput Gene Targeting Team at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Our lab works on a number of international projects, creating mutant embryonic stem cells used in the study of gene function. The software we write supports all aspects of this process, from the initial design of gene-knockouts, to the delivery of mutant molecular structures to end-users.
