"Someone had to finally say it," implies that no one has, yet you had
to say it in public so he wouldn't "ignore it so easily," suggesting
that he has ignored similar in the past?

Some (most?) people don't wait that long.  If one's second post to the
list identifies one as a wanker, it's time to go.
