I completely agree with them. And I've been here for a fair while.

I try and get along to all the tech meets but I don't make many of the
socials. Tech meets are good because they give you some common ground
when it comes to socialising in the pub afterwards as you've both
"shared an evening". They also give you some real benefits where as the
socials (IMHO) can be very hit and miss.
