Part of the problem here is the "I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill
you" issue. Perl has being going underground ever since it went
mainstream. Many, many companies use it but have a hard time
admitting it (e.g. Google, Amazon, etc). Because they're not
necessarily deploying products with it it's not seen as a first-class
language, even though without it they'd be screwed.
I'm working on a project that well... yeah I'd have to kill you. Ask
me post-exit :) I get the impresion that's quite a common predicament.
I *can* however say we're using Catalyst, DBIx::Class, and PHP.
