How about a "hogshead of mongers"?

I've noticed this too: at some meets the mongers will form small geeky
groups that are cold to an outsider trying to politely join in. The last
time I had this, it was in a pub with vile beer[0] so there wasn't really
much point in hanging around.
The trick to getting mongers to speak to you is to grab the kitty and make
for the bar :)
[0] It was, of course, a Wetherpuke, who I expect will be bought out by
Sarsons at some point.
