This is especially effective if the cat has an alternative such as a
a radiator hammock. Otherwise you have a cat that wants to be around
you for safety[1] yet also wants a hot spot, and cats aren't very good
at settling for 1 out of 2. Of course all beats are off if it's hungry.

[1] Cat psychology is basically that they want to achieve the 3 conditions
for sleep; heat, full stomach and safety. Tiredness doesn't really
seem to be a requirement.
