No.

Essentially, the domain has now been deleted but not yet released to the
pool of available domain names. This redemptionPeriod is where the previous
owner can recover the domain if they want it desperately enough to pay.

The high fees are charged by the domain registry and your registrar would
just be passing them on (plus a small charge for profit and paperwork
hassle).
