On the topic of IF, there is a bit of anthropological history about the 
failed sequel to Infocom's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at

More interesting than the article are after-post comments from various 
Infocom luminaries:  Dave Lebling, Steve Meretzky, Amy Briggs,
Tim Anderson, Marc Blank, and Michael Bywater.

There is a lot of poo-flinging in the comments, but plenty of good bits.
