No one really hassles me.  My accent, first off, is so weird that no one 
knows where I am from, so generally it doesn't come up unless we get stuck 
into a conversation.

If it does come up, no one to wit has given me any shit.  If it starts to 
look that way, I say something along the lines of,'Why do you think I 
left?' This usually does the trick.

Honestly, I think I get hassled by other Americans more than anyone.

Canadians *do* dislike being taken for Americans, though.  They're pretty 
easy to tell apart.  The loud obnoxious one is the American, and the quiet 
one in the flannel is the Canadian. ;)
